Associate Project Manager

The Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship will give you an awareness of how to prepare, plan, initiate, monitor and drive a project through to successful completion – meeting all legal and ethical requirements throughout. Associate project managers need good planning, organisation, leadership, management, and communication skills.

An Associate Project Manager utilises resources with suitable skills, qualifications, experience, and knowledge to work together in a motivated and integrated team, with clearly defined reporting lines, roles, responsibilities, and authorities.

This programme will equip your project managers with the core skills and agile mindset which will allow them to deliver successful transformation in your organisation.

This course is suitable for current or aspiring project managers. This course will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge to construct a well-managed project.

Entry Requirements:

Level 2 English and Mathematics (can be completed during the apprenticeship)

The training is a blended learning delivery model, which occurs on the job during working hours. A structured learning and assessment plan is put in place to test core components of the course along the way.

This consists of:

1-to-1 monthly meeting: Approx. two hours with a GLP Trainer (face-to-face or telephone)
Online learning courses and/or group sessions
Building an electronic portfolio of work-related evidence
Maths and English Level 2 (if not previously achieved)
6 hours a week spent working towards your apprenticeship.
End Point Assessment by an external examiner to complete the qualification, consisting of a resourcing project assignment and a professional discussion.

To achieve the qualification, within which you can either get a result of Pass, Distinction or Fail, you will be assessed both throughout the period of your apprenticeships, as well as in the final stages with an End Point Assessment (EPA).

End Point Assessment:

The EPA period will only start once the employer is satisfied that the apprentice is consistently working at or above the level set out in the occupational standard.

In addition, the apprentice must have completed the following gateway requirements prior to beginning EPA:

· Functional Skills Qualification (if required to do so).

The End Point Assessment process which typically takes 3 months and is carried out by Academy 4 Project Management, consists of two components:

Presentation with Questions and Answers

An interview panel will ask you a series of course specific questions, and you will have to demonstrate what you have learnt over the course of your programme by answering as knowledgeably as possible.

Professional Discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will gather evidence and information that forms your portfolio, and this will be used for your professional discussion. This discussion with your assessor allows you to showcase everything you have learned on the programme.

The combined score of these three methods will provide the final grade for the apprenticeship.

Working as a successful Associate Project Manager may lead to higher managerial roles like Project Manager. Dependent upon the size of the organisations and the complexity of projects, associate project managers’ job titles will vary, but typically they can include: assistant project manager, junior project manager, project team leader.

Professional Recognition

Upon commencement, apprentices may become student members of the Association for Project Management (APM) as the first step of professional membership. Apprentices will be eligible for progression to associate membership upon successful completion of the apprenticeship. Full membership can be attained through further experience and professional development.
