Sector Based Work Academies (swaps)

Sector Based Work Academies (SWAPs) are DWP-funded recruitment programmes designed to help employers fill hard-to-recruit roles quickly and efficiently. 

We deliver bespoke SWAPs for Construction, Facilities Management and Client-Facing roles – combining targeted training, short-term upskilling and a guaranteed interview to create job-ready candidates. These are all built in collaboration with employers, bespoke to your specific needs and challenges.

Our SWAPS Delivery Model

Identify Demand 

The employer confirms the roles available, capacity (typically 10+) and location.

Co-Design Training  

Bespoke programme, created around role requirements, behaviours and core skills needed for the role.  

Source and Assess 

Candidates referred via DWP and partners and assessed for role and suitability.

Upskill & Interview 

1–2 weeks of intensive training, employability support and final interviews.

Progress & Retain 

Successful candidates move into employment, with many progressing onto pre-decided apprenticeship progression pathways.

Every SWAP is bespoke and built in partnership with your company. GLP Training ensure the Academy is aligned to your open vacancies, behaviours, culture and operational needs.  The Academies also create pre-agreed progression routes into apprenticeships, giving candidates a clear pathway and employers a sustainable workforce pipeline.

Example SWAP Programmes

Introduction to Facilities Management 

1–2 week programme preparing candidates for cleaning, portering, security, maintenance and facilities roles, with progression onto FM apprenticeships. 

Access to Construction 

Includes Level 1 Health & Safety in Construction and CSCS card preparation, supporting entry into site roles with progression into trade apprenticeships.
