Following the success of an introductory taster day, GLP Training and Tudor Grange are continuing their partnership with a new two-year construction programme. This is an exciting opportunity to give year 10 students practical, hands-on experience whilst also benefitting them in many other ways!
At GLP we are thrilled to get to work with Tudor Grange and their mission of supporting students in every way by providing the practical learning environment.
A Partnership with Purpose
Our previous taster day was a roaring success, and this collaboration has now developed into a two-year NOCN Level 2 Certificate in Construction Multi-Skills.
This will take place at our very own Building Block 1 in Worcester. It will give students the opportunity to learn within a construction-focused environment and become more familiar with the standards, routines and health and safety expectations within this setting.
This collaboration formed because of demand from students who are keen to step away from traditional classroom learning and get stuck into practical work.
It shows how schools and industry-focused environments can work together to give meaningful opportunities and get young people to explore their potential.
It is more than just a partnership; it’s a collaborative opportunity designed to benefit students’ futures.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
For students who thrive doing practical, hands-on work, this programme offers a valuable alternative to traditional classroom-based learning.
The NOCN Level 2 certificate in construction multi-skills provides learners with a level 2, GCSE-equivalent qualification. Students can work towards this achievement whilst developing experience and practical skills alongside a range of construction trades.
With every learner having their own individual strengths and abilities, the programme gives them the opportunity to approach their learning in a way that benefits them best.
Getting Hands-On with Construction
Throughout the programme students will gain experience across a range of construction trades, from picking up a hammer to learning how to lay tiles each student will receive top quality training and will be supported by our dedicated tutors every step of the way.
The programme offers;
- Health and Safety training: Developing awareness of safe working practices, hazards, responsibilities and appropriate behaviour in a construction setting.
- Carpentry and Joinery: Introducing learners to basic carpentry and joinery skills, tools, materials and practical techniques.
- Painting and Wallpapering: Building experience in preparation, application techniques and achieving an appropriate finish.
- Wall and Floor Tiling: Introducing preparation, setting out and practical tiling techniques for wall and floor surfaces.
- Plumbing: Introducing basic plumbing principles, materials, fittings and practical activities.
More than just Practical Skills
Getting the students involved in this programme is not only going to equip them with how to use a toolkit but also develop many skills and behaviours also great for employability that students can take with them into the future such as;
- Confidence in themselves, their skills and their work ethic
- Communication, especially in a working environment which is great for their future careers
- Teamwork where students will have to learn how to distribute tasks across a group and create a final piece together
- Problem solving as Tutors will provide guidance and support but also allow students to figure things out by themselves
- Following Instructions will be a massive part of the course and will prepare them for their future career
- Safety within their workspace which is highly important
Building the Next Step
Over the two years, the programme will give students the chance to discover which areas of construction interest them most and begin thinking about their next steps. It will encourage them to consider whether they are interested in further education, an apprenticeship or a further career in the sector.
It’s an excellent, unique opportunity that we are proud to offer, and we are excited for all that’s to come.
