Delivery Method
This course takes a hybrid approach to learning, combining hands-on training with knowledge-based instruction. Practical skills are delivered over two days every quarter at our purpose-built Building Block construction training centres in Worcester. Classroom sessions and online masterclasses led by industry experts and cover the theoretical elements.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll build a portfolio of evidence and complete a research assignment. These demonstrate your progress and understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and behaviours — together they make up 30% of your final grade and are assessed by GLP Training.
Assessment
To achieve the qualification, apprentices are assessed throughout their training, culminating in a final assessment, which results in a Pass, Distinction, or Fail.
Before entering the Apprenticeship Assessment, apprentices must meet gateway requirements, including completing Functional Skills qualifications (if applicable). The employer must confirm the apprentice is working at or above the occupational standard and has sufficient evidence to proceed.
The Apprenticeship Assessment, delivered by City & Guilds, typically takes around three months and includes three components:
- Practical Assessment with Questions: An assessor observes the apprentice completing real-world tasks in a suitable environment.
- Interview Underpinned by Portfolio: A structured interview supported by the apprentice’s portfolio of evidence.
- Knowledge Assessment: A multiple-choice test in an invigilated setting.
The apprentice’s final grade is determined by their combined performance across all assessment elements.
