Apprenticeship
FAQ's

Answers to your questions about our apprenticeship training.

Anyone aged 16 or over can complete an apprenticeship. There’s no upper age limit – in fact, our average apprentice age is 35.

You’ll spend around 6 working hours per week on apprenticeship learning. This includes workshops, self-study, project work, and one-to-one sessions with your tutor – all directly linked to your role.

You’ll gain a nationally recognised qualification, equivalent to:

  • Level 2 – GCSEs
  • Level 3 – A Levels
  • Level 4/5 – Higher Education Certificates or Diplomas

There’s no cost to you as the apprentice.
Training, resources, and assessment are fully funded through your employer and the Government’s Apprenticeship Service.

For employers:
Levy-paying employers use existing levy funds to cover 100% of the cost.
Non-levy employers receive 95% government funding, contributing just 5%

Our team supports employers with setup and funding through the Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) – keeping the process simple.

Most programmes are delivered through live virtual sessions and independent study on Bud, our online learning system. Construction courses via blended learning/block release.
Employers can also choose closed cohorts for bespoke or on-site delivery options.

You’ll have a dedicated tutor for ongoing one-to-one support, plus access to:

  • Bud – for progress tracking and communication
  • Cognassist – to identify your learning style
  • BKSB – to support English and maths where needed

Our pastoral, support and safeguarding teams are also there to support you during your journey.

Graduates often move into more senior roles, lead sustainability initiatives, or progress to the next qualification level for further leadership development.

Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ)
FAQ's

Answers to your questions about our HTQ training.

Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs), set at Levels 4 and 5, are equivalent to the first two years of a university degree. They provide a focused pathway for learners seeking specialised technical skills in industries such as construction, management, coaching, sustainability, and more.

HTQs are developed in collaboration with employers and industry experts to ensure they meet current workplace standards and requirements. This ensures learners gain relevant, up-to-date skills that are in high demand, enhancing both employability and career progression.

The training you receive will depend on the programme and may include online masterclasses, one-to-one sessions with your tutor, and in-person workshops etc.

For detailed information on how each course is delivered, please visit the relevant course page.

The length of HTQ’s varies depending on the programme and its level. For specific information on the duration of a particular course, please visit the course page of the apprenticeship you are interested in.

The entry requirements vary depending on each course. Please visit the course page you are interested in for further details.

Ideally, individuals will also need a GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths and English. Other L2 qualifications in English and Maths may be accepted.

Applications from students returning to education who do not possess the formal entry qualifications, but can demonstrate relevant industry experience, are encouraged and will be considered on merit through our Recognition of Prior Learning procedure.

Applicants would normally be expected to have achieved a Level 2 Maths and English qualification.

At GLP Training, we believe finances shouldn’t stand in the way of your education. That’s why we offer a range of funding options to make HTQ’s accessible and affordable.

Advanced Learner Loan – A government-backed loan for learners aged 19+, covering tuition fees. Repayments only start once you earn above the income threshold, similar to university student finance.

Self-Funding in Instalments – Spread the cost of your course with manageable instalment payments over the duration of your study.

Employer Sponsorship – Many employers support staff development by funding qualifications. We can help you make a strong case to your employer about the benefits of investing in your HTQ.

Student Finance Support – Depending on your circumstances and region, you may also be eligible for student finance loans or grants to help with tuition and living costs.
