Meet the Tutors: Carpentry and Joinery

Selecting the right training programme for your workforce can be challenging, especially when you're unsure about whether the content or delivery style aligns with the job role.

That’s why we’ve created the Meet the Tutor series. This initiative is tailored to give organisations like yours a closer look at GLP Training’s highly skilled coaches, providing valuable insights into the training they deliver and how it aligns with your organisational goals.

By introducing the people behind the training, we aim to support decision-makers in identifying whether a programme matches the specific skillsets and competencies their teams require to excel.

Chat with Phillip, Our Carpentry and Joinery Tutor

In this instalment, we introduce Phillip, one of our expert Carpentry and Joinery Tutors. Phillip brings years of hands-on industry experience and a practical, learner-focused approach to his training sessions. His expertise ensures that learners gain not only technical skills but also the confidence to apply them effectively in real-world scenarios.

To give organisations a better understanding of Phillip’s teaching style and the course content, we captured some elements of one of his practical training session. This session marked the first of two workshops in the Roofing module, which consisted of erecting rafter roofs.

We also took the opportunity to speak with Phillip about his experiences as a Carpentry and Joinery Tutor. He shared insights into his teaching philosophy, his favourite part about the course, and how this training aligns with industry standards and organisational needs. Here's what Phillip shared:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My names Phillip Butler, I work for GLP Training and I've been a carpenter all my life. I served my apprenticeship 45 years ago, I worked in the industry as a self-employed carpenter, I worked for a joinery firm, I owned a joinery firm and for the last 4 or 5 years I worked for the National Trust.

What motivated you to become a tutor?

What is your favourite module in the course?

Why would you recommend this course to somebody?

Why This Matters for Your Organisation

Investing in the right training for your team is crucial for driving performance, enhancing productivity, and building technical expertise within your workforce. By gaining an insider’s perspective on the training process and meeting the tutors behind it, you can feel confident in selecting programmes that will deliver measurable results for your organisation.

If your organisation is considering up-skilling its team in Carpentry and Joinery or related areas, Phillip’s Roofing module is a great example of how GLP Training delivers practical, impactful learning experiences.
