How does an Apprenticeship work?

Apprenticeships are available to businesses of all sizes and now cover all occasions and sectors. Anyone who is 16 or over can complete an apprenticeship. There is no upper age limit to an apprenticeship, as they are a great way to help people develop their skills at all stages and help you effectively upskill your workforce.

Apprentices study towards nationally recognised qualifications. If they have not already done so, apprentices will need to complete a qualification in Maths and English alongside these to allow them to become competent in their role. Some apprenticeships may also require apprentices to complete an Information Communications Technology (ICT) qualification, to ensure they have the relevant skills they need to do the job. Depending on the type of apprenticeship it is possible for your apprentice to complete all their learning within your business, meaning that there will be minimum disruption to your everyday business tasks.
